Many of the products you purchase were designed by engineers, but heavily tempered by the demands of the finance and design departments. “Make us a product that does X, but we need the total cost to be under Y and it has to fit in this shell made by the art department.” But the Heckler & Koch P7 seems to have avoided those constraints. The H&K P7 pistol is famous for its innovative design and unique squeeze cocking system of operation. Originally designated “PSP,” for Police Service Pistol, it was H&K’s bid to replace the German federal police agency’s aging stock of Walther P.38s. The German government wanted a single, universal, semi-automatic pistol compact and light enough for undercover officers yet capable of firing 9 mm Luger (9x19 mm) ammunition.

The Heckler and Koch P7 handgun was designed in the mid 1970s by Helmut Weldle and utilizes an interesting gas-delayed blowback system, whereby pressure imparted on the piston serves to delay the action. The interesting squeeze-cocking mechanism also draws the attention of many for its uniqueness and inherent safe design. We mention the P7 often on TFBTV, and we figured that it is probably time to give it a review.
